Dometic DF operating instructions say first firing can cause manufacturing paint and oil burn-off smoke for 5 to 10 minutes, but any gas odor requires stopping, ventilating, evacuation, closing gas cylinders from outside, and calling the gas supplier or fire department.
Owner-safe checklist
- On first firing only, monitor brief manufacturing burn-off smoke for 5 to 10 minutes if there is no gas odor.
- If gas odor exists, immediately stop furnace operation.
- Open doors and windows, evacuate everyone, close cylinders from outside, and call the gas supplier or fire department.
- Call qualified RV furnace service before using the furnace again after any gas-odor event.
