Norcold Polar N7 / N8 refrigerator fault codes
Every fault code, display message, and status light listed in Norcold's manuals for Norcold Polar N7LX / N8LX; Norcold Polar N7 / N8 (LX display); Norcold Polar N7V / N8V / N7X / N8X; Norcold Polar N7V / N8V; Norcold Polar N7X / N8X; Norcold Polar N7 / N8 (all versions). Select a code for what it means, what you can safely check, and when to call a technician.
Confirm your model
Codes are model-specific. Match the model number on the appliance data label to one of these before using the table:
Polar N7LX, Polar N8LX, N7LX, N8LX, Polar N7/N8, Polar N7V, Polar N8V, Polar N7X, Polar N8X
Where to look and what to record
- Norcold Polar model label
- photo of display or indicator light
- power mode and battery voltage if visible
- battery monitor reading
- fuse panel label
- refrigerator model
- LP regulator/service history
Code table
| Code | What the manufacturer says | Listed for |
|---|---|---|
| AC HE | A problem relating to the AC heater. | Norcold Polar N7LX / N8LX |
| AC rE | A fault within the refrigerator controls. | Norcold Polar N7LX / N8LX |
| amber flashes off | The refrigerator is operating on AC power with the thermistor sensed as inoperable and backup temperature control active. | Norcold Polar N7V / N8V |
| blank display | The refrigerator being off or not turning on | Norcold Polar N7 / N8 (all versions) |
| FL -- | Flame sensed at the burner when none should be present. | Norcold Polar N7LX / N8LX |
| green flashes off | The refrigerator is operating on AC power with the thermistor sensed as inoperable and backup temperature control active. | Norcold Polar N7V / N8V |
| HI dc | A high DC input-voltage fault | Norcold Polar N7LX / N8LX |
| Lo dc | Low DC voltage display terms for insufficient 12-volt supply. / A low DC input-voltage fault | Norcold Polar N7LX / N8LX; Norcold Polar N7 / N8 (LX display) |
| no AC | No AC means AC voltage is not available to the refrigerator. | Norcold Polar N7LX / N8LX |
| no dt | Loss of communication between refrigerator controls. | Norcold Polar N7LX / N8LX |
| no FL | No FL for an LP flame/ignition failure condition. | Norcold Polar N7 / N8 (LX display) |
| oP LI | A fault within the refrigerator electronic controls. | Norcold Polar N7LX / N8LX |
| red flash 1 | A problem relating to the AC heater. | Norcold Polar N7V / N8V / N7X / N8X |
| red flash 10 | Loss of communication between refrigerator controls. | Norcold Polar N7V / N8V / N7X / N8X |
| red flash 2 | A fault within the refrigerator electronic controls. | Norcold Polar N7V / N8V / N7X / N8X |
| red flash 3 | The manual gives model-specific meanings: N7V/N8V indicate flame present when it should not be, while N7X/N8X indicate electronic controls. | Norcold Polar N7V / N8V / N7X / N8X |
| red flash 4 | A refrigerator-controls fault. | Norcold Polar N7V / N8V / N7X / N8X |
| red flash 5 | Flame sensed at the burner when none should be present. | Norcold Polar N7V / N8V / N7X / N8X |
| red flash 6 | A problem relating to the DC heater on 3-way models. | Norcold Polar N7X / N8X |
| red flash 7 | A fault within the refrigerator electronic controls. | Norcold Polar N7X / N8X |
| red flash 8 | DC input voltage that is too low. | Norcold Polar N7V / N8V / N7X / N8X |
| red flash 9 | DC input voltage that is too high. | Norcold Polar N7V / N8V / N7X / N8X |
| snowflake flashes | Temperature setting snowflakes flashing means the thermistor has been sensed inoperable and backup temperature control is active. | Norcold Polar N7X / N8X |
| solid red | The refrigerator tried to operate on the selected energy source with no success. | Norcold Polar N7V / N8V / N7X / N8X |
| Sr | Sr is a fault within the refrigerator electronic controls. | Norcold Polar N7LX / N8LX |
| temperature setting flashes | Temperature setting flashing means the thermistor has been sensed as inoperable and backup temperature control is active. | Norcold Polar N7LX / N8LX |
Do not bypass refrigerator controls, flame-sense devices, high-temperature protection, LP components, or electrical circuits. Shut off LP and power if there is gas odor, flame abnormality, overheating, or repeated fault behavior.
Do not work inside energized 12 VDC or 120 VAC panels unless qualified.
Do not hand-light, clean burner parts, adjust gas, or bypass ignition controls. Shut off LP if gas odor is present.
