Lippert Girard tankless water heater fault codes
Every fault code, display message, and status light listed in Lippert's manuals for Girard GSWH-2; Girard GSWH-1; Girard GSWH-1M. Select a code for what it means, what you can safely check, and when to call a technician.
Confirm your model
Codes are model-specific. Match the model number on the appliance data label to one of these before using the table:
Girard GSWH-2, Girard GSWH-1, Girard GSWH-1M
Where to look and what to record
- Girard GSWH-2 model label
- user control panel code
- set and displayed temperature
- hot-water flow state
- LP and 12V status
- Girard GSWH-1 model label
- diagnostic LED blink pattern
- power switch state
Code table
| Code | What the manufacturer says | Listed for |
|---|---|---|
| E0 | Water outlet temperature probe failure | Girard GSWH-2 |
| E1 | Ignition failure or accidental flame off during ignition | Girard GSWH-2 |
| E2 | Flame sensing interrupted during normal operation and the buzzer will sound | Girard GSWH-2 |
| E3 | ECO open before ignition or during normal operation, commonly from outlet water temperature above 140 F | Girard GSWH-2 |
| E4 | Water inlet temperature probe failure | Girard GSWH-2 |
| E5 | Blower motor failure because no motor signal was detected before ignition or during operation | Girard GSWH-2 |
| E6 | Over temperature because outlet water temperature exceeded 140 F for 3 seconds | Girard GSWH-2 |
| E7 | Linear valve failure detected in the control circuit before ignition or during operation | Girard GSWH-2 |
| E8 | Air pressure switch not detected before ignition or cut off during normal operation | Girard GSWH-2 |
| E9 | Flame sensor error because flame is sensed before ignition and the buzzer will sound | Girard GSWH-2 |
| En | System timer because the water heater ran longer than 20 minutes | Girard GSWH-2 |
| Fd | Fd as winter-use mode or freeze protection; the unit may run briefly and shut off in freezing conditions when LP gas and 12V power are on, but this protects only the water-heater heat exchanger and not the RV plumbing system. | Girard GSWH-2 |
| steady on | Internal control fault | Girard GSWH-1; Girard GSWH-1M |
| 1 flash | Air fault | Girard GSWH-1; Girard GSWH-1M |
| 2 flashes | Flame detection error | Girard GSWH-1; Girard GSWH-1M |
| 3 flashes | Lockout | Girard GSWH-1; Girard GSWH-1M |
| 4 flashes | Intentionally NA and reserved for future diagnostics | Girard GSWH-1; Girard GSWH-1M |
| 5 flashes | Low voltage | Girard GSWH-1; Girard GSWH-1M |
The legacy Girard GSWH-1/GSWH-1M is an LP gas tankless water heater. Shut the heater off for gas odor, overheating, leaks, blocked exhaust, repeated lockout, or repeated LED faults and use Lippert/Girard or qualified RV service.
