Lippert E3 fault code — Water heater
Applies to: Girard GSWH-2
What E3 means
The Lippert Girard GSWH-2 owner manual lists E3 as ECO open before ignition or during normal operation, commonly from outlet water temperature above 140 F.
Owner-safe checks
- Turn hot-water demand off and let the heater cool.
- Do not restart if overheated water, relief discharge, or the same code returns.
- Record the code, set temperature, water-flow state, and whether hot water was unusually hot.
- Contact Lippert/Girard or a qualified technician before further operation if E3 repeats.
Service-only work
- Internal sensor, ignition, flame-sense, ECO, blower, pressure-switch, linear-valve, wiring, gas, and controller diagnosis is qualified service work.
Safety boundary
The Girard GSWH-2 is an LP gas tankless water heater. Shut the heater off for gas odor, overheating, leaks, blocked exhaust, or repeated faults and use Lippert/Girard or qualified RV service.
